WP 1: COVID-19 IN PREGNANCY – RISK FACTORS, OUTCOME & THERAPY
Objectives are to:
• Determine infectivity and appropriate infection control measures in health care settings in pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium
• Examine the clinical course and pregnancy outcomes (risk of miscarriage, preterm birth and stillbirth) in women with COVID-19 disease, compared with healthy pregnant women
• Examine the clinical course and pregnancy outcomes in SARS-CoV-2 immunized women, compared with non-immunized pregnant women
• Describe the response to treatment, including supportive care
• Understand transmissibility and the probabilities of different clinical outcomes following exposure and infection with focus on mother to child transmission and neonatal outcome
• Explore the effect of maternal COVID-19 infection and SARS-CoV-2 immunity to fetal growth and development, perinatal morbidity and mortality
• Develop clinical guidance documents and offer clinical recommendations to policy makers on the basis of evidence obtained

WP 2: SARS-COV-2 PATHOGENICITY IN PREGNANCY- VIROLOGY, IMMUNITY & VERTICAL TRANSMISSION
Objectives are to:
• Observe pathogen replication, excretion and evolution, within pregnant /non-pregnant patients
• Identify determinants of severity and transmission using high throughput sequencing of pathogen genomes obtained from maternal and neonatal respiratory tract, blood, urine, stool, amniotic fluid, umbilical cord blood, placental biopsy, vaginal secretion, breastmilk and other relevant clinical samples
• Innate and acquired host responses to COVID-19 infection over time in pregnancy, immune responses, circulating levels of immune signaling molecules as well as to explore their associations with clinical parameters and outcome
• Determine the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 immunity at the first trimester of pregnancy in an unselected population
• Evaluate SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels in serial serum samples from first or second trimester and at birth to study the kinetics over time

WP 3: PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF PLACENTA
Objectives are to determine the:
• Describe placenta function and pathology during COVID-19
• Identify determinants of placenta disorders e.g. endothelial pathophysiology
• Explore differences in the virus load in biopsies from maternal and fetal placenta parts
• Electron microscopy in placenta biopsies from maternal and fetal parts
