Standardised protocols for biobanks

Bergen Hospital Trust’s Haukeland University Hospital has developed standardised protocols for biobanks that are relevant for ongoing and planned Covid-19 clinical trials, including the WHO Solidarity trial. The focus for the development of the protocols has been not to take unnecessarily large sample volumes from hospitalised patients, and the protocols include the collection of whole blood, serum, EDTA plasma, buffy coat and samples from the upper respiratory tract. Urine and cerebrospinal fluid are biobanked if taken as part of routine analyses. It is desirable that the protocols be shared nationally to facilitate an optimally standardised collection of biobank samples in connection with Covid-19.
